Simons Group STAT!
The problem: A Chicago-based health-care information products company needed large posters designed, printed and delivered within two business days and a companion PowerPoint® presentation in less than two hours.
The solution: The Simons Group is no stranger to seemingly impossible deadlines. A combination of teamwork, project management expertise and close relationships with first-rate printers drove the project to a successful conclusion.
The story: The client contacted The Simons Group on Friday afternoon, asking if we could create four large posters for a Webinar the following Wednesday. They didn’t know the optimal size for the items, and they weren’t quite finished with copy for the posters, but they wanted to find out if this was even possible. We assured them it was.
One of our designers has extensive experience with Webinar material, and she recommended the optimal size for these posters. As the copy came in, she split the work with our other designer, while the project manager began contacting printers to determine who could deliver the posters on such short notice. Meanwhile, one of our editors began reviewing the signs for grammar and content as fast as our designers could create them.
The client made several rounds of revisions to the posters via phone, fax and e-mail. Our team stayed until the last 't' had been crossed and the last 'i' had been dotted. Then we uploaded the files to the printer, who assured us he would begin production over the weekend and would deliver the posters the following Tuesday.
When we followed up with the printer Monday morning, however, we learned he didn’t have the necessary paper to produce the posters. We immediately began calling other printers, finding one who could get the job done on what was now an extremely short deadline at a very competitive price. The posters were delivered Tuesday, as planned.
All’s well that ends well, right? Well, not so fast.
Two hours before the Webinar began Wednesday, the client asked us to create an accompanying PowerPoint presentation based on the slides. Our designer took the final copy out of Quark and converted it to doc files, while another team member turned it into PowerPoint slides with time to spare.
While The Simons Group doesn’t encourage adrenaline-producing, social-life-reducing projects like this, we don’t shy away from them, either. Your emergency is our emergency. That kind of ownership applies to all our projects – no matter how much time we have to create them.
